Fair Housing
NestSift supports the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Opportunity Act.
Equal Housing Opportunity
Our commitment
NestSift is committed to the letter and the spirit of United States policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing programme in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, or disability.
What this means for listings
Every listing on NestSift is reviewed by a person before it is published. Part of that review is checking that the listing describes the property rather than the sort of person the landlord would prefer to live in it.
We do not accept listings that state a preference, limitation or discrimination based on a protected characteristic. That includes wording which seems harmless — “no children”, “adults only”, “ideal for a young professional”, “English speaking”, or a reference to a nearby place of worship as a selling point.
Assistance animals are not pets
A service animal or an emotional-support animal is not a pet. A landlord may not refuse one under a no-pets policy, and may not charge a pet fee or pet deposit for one. This is the rule that catches out well-meaning landlords more than any other, so it is worth repeating.
Accessibility
We want NestSift to be usable by everyone. If any part of this site is difficult for you to use, please tell us — we will fix it and, in the meantime, help you directly.
If you believe you have been discriminated against
You can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at hud.gov, or by calling the HUD housing discrimination hotline. You can also tell us: use the “Report this listing” link on any listing, or contact us directly. We take it seriously and we will act on it.
